The next lecture in this series is here.

We give an introductory survey of Lie groups theory by describing some examples of Lie groups in low dimensions.

Some recommended books:

  • Lie algebras and Lie groups by Serre (anything by Serre is well worth reading)
  • Representation theory by Fulton and Harris (Many examples)
  • Lie groups and Lie algebras by Bourbaki (great as a reference, and contains several of the proofs omitted from the lectures, but is rather dry to learn from).

You might be able to get free pdf files of these from Springer if you have an account with a university that subscribes.

This video is part of a lecture course by Richard Borcherds from 2021.
